Immediate Care

If a death has occurred and you are in need of immediate assistance, please call (708) 390-1200.

Death Away From Home

In our global society, it is not unheard of a death occuring away from home. Loved ones may die while on a business trip, vacation or at a temporary residence away from their family. Fortunately, today’s method of transportation coupled with technology alleviates some of the stress and anguish associated with arranging a funeral, burial or cremation away from home.

Step One: Notify immediate family members.

Together, you can assist each other in expressing your grief and sorrow. In the hours following your loss, family will play a crucial role in electing the type of services you would like for your loved one.

Step Two: Call the Funeral Director in the city in which services are to be held.

For instance: if someone dies while on vacation in Fort Myers, Florida, but the family intends to hold services in Chicago, Illinois, the family should immediately call their Chicago funeral director. Contacting your hometown funeral director can eliminate the potential for service and fee duplication. If you need immediate assistance in making long-distance funeral arrangements, call 708-390-1200.

Step Three: Gather the following information:

  1. Full Name of the Deceased
  2. Address of Residency
  3. Date of Birth
  4. Date of Death
  5. Approximately Time of Death
  6. Location where the Death occurred
  7. Primary Care Physician
  8. Name of the Deceased's Spouse (if they were married at the time of death)
  9. Name of the Deceased's Parents, including the mother's maiden name
  10. Birthplace (city and state)
  11. Social Security Number
  12. Is the Deceased a U.S. Veteran? If so, which Branch?
  13. Race and ethnicity
  14. Name of Cemetery where the Deceased will be interred

This information will be necessary for processing the Death Certificate and Permits for disposition. The Death Certificate must be completed before your loved one may be transported back to the city where services and burial will take place.

Step Four: Make travel arrangements for yourself.

You will want to begin making arrangements to return home to the city where services will be held. We can arrange to have a complementary limousine or family sedan meet you at your destination.
